Exhibition “The Child in Language: Step by Step”

Alessandra Del Ré & Rosângela Nogarini Hilário

The exhibition The Child in Language: Step by Step is an initiative that has been presented both online and in person throughout Brazil and France and therefore constitutes an important effort to disseminate the results of academic research in the field of Language Acquisition, especially that developed by the research groups GEALin (UNESP Araraquara) and NALíngua (CNPq), as well as by national and international researchers. The proposal is original in two main respects. The first concerns the timeliness of the topic, grounded in research that is continually updated and that is of interest to the broader public, since it addresses questions that often populate the popular imagination, such as: “How does a child learn their first words?” or “At what age is a child expected to produce more complex sentences?”, among others. The second concerns the format of the product itself: an exhibition presented both in a permanent space (as in the case of the CCA), in a traveling format (visiting different Brazilian states and even other countries), and in a virtual environment, thus enabling broad and unrestricted dissemination of knowledge. As a product derived from academic research and curated by a scientific committee bringing together national and international scholars, the exhibition carries strong credibility while remaining accessible to the general public in spaces designed to welcome non-specialist audiences and through language suited to them, extending beyond the walls of the university.
